Advertisement for the post of IITM Research Fellow

The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, an autonomous research body under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, focuses intently on advanced weather and climate science. Its efforts include training postgraduates to pursue research in atmospheric and oceanic sciences, ultimately aiming to enhance weather and climate forecasting. Important points for IITM Research Fellow positions: Applicants who have cleared national eligibility tests like CSIR-UGC NET, UGC NET, ICAR NET (for Lectureship/Assistant Professorship), GATE, or JEST are eligible. Even those awaiting their final M.Sc./M.S./M.Tech./M.E. results can apply, provided they mention their aggregate marks till the last completed semester. However, their final appointment is contingent upon successful completion of their degree, verified by mark sheets or provisional certificates. Candidates holding valid fellowships from CSIR, UGC, or DST-INSPIRE are also encouraged to apply and must specify their preferred fellowship (IITM or their existing one) in the online application. Those with a DST-INSPIRE fellowship who haven’t qualified any other national examination must opt for the DST-INSPIRE fellowship.

Age Limit Relaxation: Upper age limit is relaxed by 05 years for SC, ST, Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) and Women candidates, and 03 years for OBC (Non-creamy-layer) candidates.

Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) Clauses: PwBD candidates under the following clauses are eligible to apply:

  • Deaf and hard of hearing

Incomplete applications or those not meeting the advertisement’s criteria will be rejected. Candidates are responsible for ensuring they meet all eligibility requirements and that all furnished information is accurate. Any misrepresentation or false information at any stage will lead to disqualification. For multiple applications, only the latest one will be considered.

Uploading of Documents:

  • Applicants must upload a coloured scanned passport-size photograph (JPG, under 100 kB) and original certificates in the specified sections; failure to do so will prevent form submission.
  • Candidates awaiting final results should submit mark sheets up to their latest semester as a single PDF. Uploading irrelevant documents will lead to outright rejection.

Selection Process:

Meeting the stated minimum qualifications does not guarantee an invitation for a written test or interview. A dedicated Screening Committee will review applications, and may establish additional criteria to shortlist candidates for either a written test or direct interview.

If a large volume of applications is received for the IITM Research Fellow positions, a written test may be conducted. This test serves solely for shortlisting candidates for the interview, and its scores will not be considered during the final selection process.

Final selection will be based exclusively on interview performance. Only screened or shortlisted candidates will be contacted via email for an interview, and IITM will not respond to any inquiries regarding the shortlisting outcome for non-selected applicants.

General Instructions for Internship Applicants:
1. The candidate should be a citizen of India.
2. Students who have pursued or pursuing courses in the disciplines of Science/Technology, which are relevant to DoS/ISRO Programmes alone, will be considered.
3) The number of students selected for internship may vary due to facility constraints. It is the prerogative of VSSC to accept/reject the application.
4) On account of large number of applications received for internship, it may not be possible to accommodate all the applicants. It is advised to identify other organizations also as an alternative, in the event of the application not getting through in the selection process.
5) A student will be allowed to pursue only one internship for each degree course.

Terms & Conditions:

  1. All eligible candidates are advised to be present at least one hour before scheduled time on the date of Interview for verification of certificates. No entry / registration will be entertained after 10.00 A.M.

  3. The position is purely temporary and will be filled on contractual basis till the termination of the scheme or as per the need, whichever is earlier. Duration of engagement can be curtailed / extended as per need and subject to performance of the candidate.

  • Diploma Apprentices: Candidates must possess Diploma in the relevant discipline from a recognized Board/Institution.
  • Candidates should satisfy the eligibility conditions as per the Apprentices Act, 1961 and rules framed there under.
  • Registration: Candidates must be registered on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) (nats.education.gov.in)
  • Engineering Graduates and Diploma holders who have graduated during the last 5 years are eligible to undergo apprenticeship training under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS).

DURATION OF APPRENTICESHIP: The duration of apprenticeship training will be for one year as per the Apprenticeship Act 1961.

SELECTION METHOD: Selection will be based on an interview, as per the norms decided by Instrumentation Limited.

HOW TO APPLY: Eligible candidates are advised to visit the official website of Instrumentation Limited (www.ilpgt.com) and download the prescribed application form. The duly filled application form, along with the resume and copies of the B.Tech/BE & Diploma certificate and Aadhaar should be sent by post to the Manager (P&A), Instrumentation Limited, Kanjikode West, Palakkad on or before 09.02.2026.
