University of Calcutta Admission 2012 to Ph.D. Programme in Linguistics

Applications are invited for admission in the Department of Linguistics, University of Calcutta, for the Ph.D. programme leading to Ph. D. degree in Linguistics. Admission to the programme will be granted to a maximum of 5 candidates.

Candidates should apply in the prescribed proforma .

Eligible candidates will have to appear in a written examination of 3 hours duration, to be held on the 30th January, 2012 at 12 noon.

Successful candidates will be called for an interview subsequently.

The final selection for the Ph.D programme will be done on the basis of this interview.

Applicants who have already passed NET/SET/ SLET/GATE/Teacher Fellowship or equivalent examinations are not required to appear at the written examination.They have to appear in the interview.

Candidates are requested to download the application form from the University Website and to submit the application at the office of the Department of Linguistics, University of Calcutta. The last date for submission of application forms is the 13th January, 2012.

Section A (Compulsary) Full marks 70 (7×10)

3. Phonology
4. Morphology
5. Semantics
6. Syntax

Section B (Elective) Full marks 30 (15×2)

Candidates are required to answer two questions from any one of the Elective Sections given below.

1. Advanced Phonology
2. Advanced Syntax
3. Historical Linguistics
4. Psycholinguistics
5. Sociolinguistics
6. Stylistics
