PMDRF – Prime Minister’s Rural Development Fellowship

The Ministry of Home Affairs has identified 60 districts of the country as Left Wing Extremism (LWE) districts. The Government of India has launched a special programme in these districts called Integrated Action Plan (IAP). On 13th of September, Union Minister of Rural Development Mr. Jairam Ramesh announced a scheme of PM’s Rural Development Fellows (PMDRF), for deploying young professionals in each of the IAP districts to assist the District Collector.

Prime Minister’s Rural Development Fellowship is an excellent opportunity for committed young people to contribute to enhancing development and welfare of the people in rural and tribal areas of the country.  It is envisaged that the selection and training process and intensive development facilitation work at the village, block and district level as PMRDF will provide an exceptional growth potential.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria would be:

Must be 21-30 years old
Must be a postgraduate in Social Science/ Science/ Management or a graduate in Law/ Engineering/ Medicine
Knowledge of hindi and a local language used in an IAP district is desirable.
Work experiemce is preferred

Method of Selection

Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their qualifications and experience. Selection will be on the basis of the written synopsis; group discussions and interviews will be used to test the candidateʼs motivation, leadership, social and negotiating skills.

Training

The selected candidates will go through a three-month intensive training course including a 4 week internship in the preferred district.

Duration of Posting:

The fellows will be appointed for a period of two years on a fixed contract, extendable for one more year based on performance. The PMRDF will be offered an attractive compensation that would include HRA, health insurance and other support.

NBHM Scholarships For Pursuing Doctoral Program (Ph.D) in Mathematics

The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) invites applications for the grant of scholarships to students for pursuing research for Ph.D degree in Mathematics.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be motivated B.A./B.Sc./B. holders or final year students of these degree courses academic record (1st Class or equivalent grade in all present. B.Sc (Honors) students with second class may also apply.

The Scholarship:

Successful candidates will be eligible to receive a scholarship amount Rs.16000/- (Rs Sixteen thousand only) per month for the first and seqond Rs. 18000/- (Eighteen thousands only) per month for subsequent years, a Rs. 20000/-(Rs. Twenty thousand only) per year and house rent allowance as per central government norms wherever applicable. The scholarships are normally a total period of four years, sanctioned for one year at a time and renewable at the end of the progress. An enhanced amount of scholarship may be offered the end of the second year. If deemed fit, the scholarship may be extended to five years at the discretion of NBHM

To avail of the scholarship the students have to enroll in an appropriate institutions Ph.D. degree in mathematics. The scholarship will be paid institutions they join.

Selection Procedure:

A written test will be held based on questions topics normally covered in master’s degree programmes in mathematics. The test will be for two and half hours and involve questions with short answers. Selection will be followed by interview of short-listed candidates. The written test will be held on January 28,2012

The written test will be conducted at the following centres, divided into five separate

zones:

Zone 1: Chandigarh, New Delhi

Zone 2 : Allahabad, Indore, Jabalpur

Zone 3 : Goa, Mumbai, Pune, Vallabh Vidyanagar

Zone 4 : Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Kolkata, Ranchi, Shillong

Zone 5 : Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad

How To Apply:

Applications on plain paper should be made in the format given in advertisement and should be sent in duplicate along with a recent passport size photograph attached to each copy and a self-addressed envelope, affixed with a Rs.5/-postage stamp, to the address of the appropriate zone in which the candidate wishes to appear for the written test.

The applicant should contact the zonal coordinator to whom the application was sent, if he/she does not receive a communication about the test (or hall-ticket) by 06-01-2012

The applicant must contact the centre suggested by the zonal coordinator if the applicant does not receive a hall ticket by 20-01-2012
